Dr Salvatore (Sam) Fiorenza

Sam is a physician-scientist and CAR(-T) enthusiast (he drives a Corolla). He is the Medical Lead of Cell Therapy at Epworth HealthCare where he is also a clinical haematologist with an interest in malignant disease and immunotherapy. He is also a staff specialist at the Alfred Hospital in the CAR-T and lymphoma team where he will be assisting with new cellular therapy studies arising from the Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre. Sam is a senior research fellow with Professor Cameron Turtle at the University of Sydney where his research interest is in using high-dimensional analyses to parse determinants of CAR-T cell therapy. During his post-doctoral studies at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, his broad research activity included the epigenomic basis of CAR-T cell fitness, novel CAR-T cell therapies for AML, understanding how the microbiome impacts T cell reconstitution following allogeneic stem cell transplantation and the value and affordability of CAR-T cell therapy. He is excited to learn about new directions in improving access to cellular therapies across Australia and is an active member of the Australia and New Zealand Transplant and Cellular Therapies Society.
